A global pandemic has certainly created an abundance of stress, challenges and change for people in our Fredericksburg community and beyond. We know it’s easy to get caught up in the hardships of this moment, but at Tulip Salon & Spa, we also believe in finding ways to turn our lemons into lemonade. In this case, the lemons are pretty sour—forced time away from the jobs, guests and community we love so much is a hard pill to swallow. But, when we started to cultivate the sweetness to cut all that sour, we realized there are some blessings in all of this. Read on to see how we’re dealing with the pandemic and for tips to help you do the same!
THE BLESSING OF QUALITY TIME
As much as we love the hustle and bustle of everyday life, work and all the obligations that come with it, there’s something incredible about this moment that is allowing us to slow down and spend quality time with our loved ones. And while so much quality time can be a little overwhelming (shout out to all the parents out there who have turned into teachers and 24-hour caretakers), it’s also a reminder of how lucky we are. Our Tulip Salon & Spa team members are taking full advantage of this time with family members.
Nadia Joens, Designer Stylist, is soaking up the quality time with her pets (we suspect pets everywhere are a huge fan of quarantine). And Danielle Dodge, Master Stylist, is spending as much time as possible with her kids, preferably outside to keep them from getting too stir-crazy.

SPARKING CREATIVITY
As vast as our team is, one thing that brings us all together is a passion for creating—that’s why we get so much joy out of our jobs creating looks for you! Right now, that creativity is spreading beyond beauty and into other avenues like cooking and sewing.
Danielle has been perfecting her whipped coffee recipe:
- 4 tablespoons instant coffee
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- Splash of vanilla
- Dash of cinnamon
Whisk all ingredients together until it’s light and fluffy, serve over milk and mix. Voila!

Chelsie Schiattareggia, Senior Stylist, has been putting her creativity to work sewing masks for people in her community.

And Nadia has been cooking up some fresh recipes, like her favorite pico de gallo:
- 1 red onion
- 1 bundle cilantro
- 2 tomatoes
- White vinegar
- Lime juice
- Salt and pepper
Dice the tomatoes, 2/3 of the cilantro and half the red onion. Add a few shots of vinegar and squeeze a lime or two into the mixture. Top with a little salt and pepper, mix and enjoy! She loves it for tacos, fajita steak or just with chips.
AT-HOME BEAUTY TIPS
We know it can be challenging to keep up maintenance on your hair and skin at home, and our beauty gurus have tips to make it easier for you.
1. TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR
We know it can be tempting to turn to box color, especially when those roots and grays start showing up. But box color can damage your hair and cost you lots of money and headaches later—especially if it requires a color correction from a professional (which it often does).

Instead, opt to hide your new growth with accessories like hats, cute pins and creative styles like braids.
Another way to take care of your hair while we’re closed is to use treatment masks from Aveda to keep your hair as healthy as possible. Our favorites are:
- Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment—it targets damaged hair and reinforces the integrity of the hair from roots to ends.
- Dry Remedy Moisturizing Masque—delivers intensive moisture and leaves your hair soft, shiny and healthy.
2. SHOP YOUR FAVORITE PRODUCTS ONLINE
Just because we’re closed for the moment doesn’t mean you have to be without your favorite products. In fact, now is the perfect time to stock up on the products that can help you create a peaceful, Zen at-home spa experience. You can shop Aveda products online and get FREE shipping here.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Even though this time is a challenge, the Tulip Salon & Spa team wants to thank you for the support. The best part of owning our small business is all of you—our community and guests who help us do what we love. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for continuing to support us, and we can’t wait to see you all again in the salon!
