Five Ways to be More Grateful This Year

We’re so excited and we just can’t hide it—we made the Salon Today 200 List of Best Salons in America for the fifth year in a row in the areas of Compensation & Benefits and Education—and we owe it all to you!

To our guests, our stylists and everyone else, we couldn’t be more thankful for each and every one of you that walk in our doors. To celebrate our five years on the list, we’re spreading the love—we’re sharing five of our favorite ways to be a little more grateful to one another for the new year. (And beyond!)

KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL

In the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget the little things that put a smile on your face. Recording the positive thoughts and moments in your life daily, weekly or even monthly keeps it all together and lets your mind focus on the good in your day. When you’re feeling down, take a peek at what you’ve written—you’ll be glad you did.

VOLUNTEER

Join in on a cause that is important to you. Volunteering your time, money or resources to those in need or for causes you care about can be both rewarding and fun. It also puts things into perspective—it can make you grateful for the things you have in your life that others don’t, and not take anything for granted.

PRACTICE MINDFULNESS

Meditation or silent reflection is a simple way to be at peace with yourself (even for only a few minutes). Let your mind paint a picture of all you are grateful for, and train your brain to think in a more positive light. It’s no wonder some of the most successful people in the world meditate every day—the practice is both a refreshing daily ritual and above all, effective.

RESIST COMPARISON

You know what they say—comparison really can be the thief of joy. In a digital world, we are constantly stimulated by others with more. Resist the urge to compare your life with theirs, and focus on the gratitude you have for what’s in your life. (You never know—someone else could be wishing they could have a life like yours.)

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Like an oxygen mask on an airplane, the best way to give yourself to others is to focus on yourself first. A new haircut, relaxing massage or spa treatment can not only make you feel good, it can encourage you to do good, too.

From all of us at Tulip Salon, thank you. Cheers to a year filled with great intentions and even more gratitude.
